Of Montreal

Guest Post by Dell Smith

After my third experience seeing Of Montreal play, I'm convinced.
They're awesome, and Kevin Barnes is one of the greatest composers
(yep, composer, not songwriter) alive right now. Their show at the
Granada Theater last Monday (May 24) was one seemless celebration,
during which nobody was outside smoking cigarettes. I don't think I've
ever sweated so much in my life. **ed note: That's gross, dude.

They opened with a brief jam on a standard rock n roll song, as if to
say "This is what lies at the heart of our music, but you're not going
to hear anything else like it tonight," before going straight into
Suffer for Fashion. From that point on, Kevin and the band did
everything they could to keep us clicking at 130bpm minimum.

Highlights of the show were For Our Elegant Caste, which had the whole
room screaming that they go both ways, an unexpected explosion of joy
with An Eluardian Instance, and a close of the show proper with what
may be one of the greatest songs ever written (and a personal
favorite), A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger.

The sound and atmosphere in the Granada were stellar, as usual, and I
can think of no venue better suited to this band. I just hope that
they don't grow too big for it before they play Dallas again, and that
I'm still in the area when they do.
