I don't want to double Dork. Fuck no. I subscribe to the Don't Let The Other Guys Beat You school of defense, when it comes to guys like Dork Nowinski . They guy likes to shoot jumpers. Sure he draws fouls and stuff (and to be fair, he takes high percentage 12-10 footers).
With guys like Kobe or even Steve Nash, you want to prevent them from doing the most damage they can do. The most Dirk can do is hit open guys for threes, or cutters for easy twos or get his own rebound off a short shot.
But he can shoot! What about 14/16 for 36?
I know this. The worst part about his 36 points was the 12 free throws he shot.
I say let Dirk shoot all day. Give him space. If SA can concentrate on grabbing those two rebounds off the two shots he misses, then everything will be peachy.
The thing I won't talk too much about is the Confidence Factor. When a guy is on like that, especially at home, it gives the rest of the guys a boost. I won't even talk about how demoralized the defenders get. So, there is more to defending than just going with a "Who do I leave open strategy" but its not nearly as fun to talk about.
This is all just my fan perspective. I'd rather lose watching Dirk get 55, than watch Jason Terry do his damn little airplane move. Ghey. Even then, I'd rather see him fake fly than see Marion do his whack ass little hitch-shot. An affront to basketball, that.
