I have alluded to this before in this post.
I think it is important for UNT to align itself with Texas schools. TCU and smoo are too good for us apparently, and don't want have us competing with them. I understand their thinking. We are pretty close to them and we would be taking some of their base. We need to embrace UTSA getting a football team. Not because they are new, but because they are in our state and can help us. Less money for travel, increased interest, a real life rivalry.
So, how in the fuck do we accomplish this? Well, it ain't gonna come from the geezers (alumni). They have a hard time raising money for this school for whatever reason. They can't raise 30 mill collectively when Red Mccombs dropped 30 mill on his business school for UT. We have had some fairly well known grads and how much have they given back? Do you see them at our shellackings? Do you see buildings with their name on it?
Fuck them, then.
Time out. Don't get offended. If you have given back, good for you. If you don't have big time money and prestige to lend, then don't worry about it. Buy your $25 shirt and tailgate. Go back to your foundation repair job or your flooring business or your band. Good for you. You did what you could. Now you other guys? Fuck you.
Who knows how many people have played this tune? I know when I sing it I am told "heard it before." Fuck you then. I don't like people when people knock this university. They are knocking me by association. They are knocking you too. Full disclosure: I was guilty of it once upon a time. Then I turned 20.
I think this is more on my mind becasue my boss is a Texas Douche, and my friend was rocking his UT shirt....
... while walking to Terrell Hall.
I know we have made progress and for those that are responsible for the changes, I am grateful.
So I guess it is pointless to ask the alumni for support. Fuck 'em. We current students and recent grads need to do it. We need to support the teams and give back once we have our slip of paper.
