The NFL, beloved purveyor of professional football, has wavered. They caved in! What would our founding fathers think? I talked to Glenn Beck, and he confirms that America has got more cancer. Or something. I dunno I couldn't really understand what he was rambling about.
No really, OT rules are changing. In the playoffs.

1. If the team that receives the ball gets a field goal, the second team has the opportunity to tie or win.
2. It only applies to the first possession of overtime. After that Sudden Death rules apply.

I like it. I think its the best compromise. It includes elements of the college system, while also preserving the drama of the sudden death. It allows teams that feel cheated (whether justified or not) the opportunity to prove that they could, in fact, drive "like 50 yards and kick an effin FG"
I don't know if I care or not that it may not be implemented in the regular season. Sure it will matter, and if that game decides playoff fates then it will suck. Still, though, a regular season loss, while painful, does not compare with a playoff loss to Adam Vinatieri.
