Auburn Fires Tuberville

Tommy is out.

Sad when a coach that went undefeated only five years ago gets forced out. I understand that at a school like Auburn, you have different standards. Still, I remember hearing that he was almost fired before the '04 season, but he saved himself with a good showing.

There is also talk that Mike Leach was contacted about going there. If I am Mr. Pirate, I don't know if I do that. He is a legend at Tech. He probably could stay there for as long as he wants, unless there are some influential Tech boosters that feel that 11-1 seasons are not good enough. There is a theory floating out there that he has reached the ceiling with Tech. That may be true. They have done as well as they could this year short of being perfect. Harrell graduates this year. How many more times is Leach going to get a team as good as the one he has got?

But, if he leaves for a school with high expectations, he may not have leeway to fail in big games like he has in Lubbock. When you think about it, Tech is always good for a big win against a top opponent at SBC-Jones, but they are also good for one choke-job on the road. Has happened every year there. Don't get me wrong, though. I love to watch that team. They were rebels for a while; the only pass-wacky team in the Big 12 for a while. Other teams threw it, but they were not dedicated to it the way Leach is/was. Tough choice for Mike, here.

Oh yeah, didn't mention that he is rumored to have talked to Washington already.
