Really, it doesn't matter who wins. The most deserving guy doesn't always win. With so many subjective viewpoints on the matter, inlcuding alumni voting for their own, you are never going to get an objective vote on any of these things.
Another thing you deal with is the fact that they give it out every year. Some dudes, like Troy Smith win in a year where they benefit from lack of competition. If Vince and Bush had stayed for their senior years, ol' Troy would have a bare trophy cabinet. Adrian Peterson probably deserves to have won his freshman year. Leinart didn't do much more than throw and hand off to talented guys. Even Bush had Lendale to do the heavy lifting, and Leinart and Jarret to take pressure off of him. Note: I am not saying Reggie sucked. Dude was a playmaker, but he had help to put up those numbers, Vince Young did not.
Side note: What is up with SC and their stacked-with-talent players not panning out in the NFL? Dwayne Jarret? What are up up to buddy? In two years he has 15 catches!? Geez. Let's not even bring up Mike Williams. Lendale is doing alright, but he was iffy his first year. What about Reggie Bush, the next in line from the Gale Sayers/Barry Sanders dynasty? Looks more like he should be playing reciever than running back, though I had a feeling that because he likes to use his speed he wouldn't be as effective. Leinart? Back up.
Side note to side note: Yes, I know some guys like Lofa Tatupu and others have succeded and are making a career for themselves, but that vaunted USC offense that was declared the best ever by ESPN during the lead up to that Texas-USC matchup.
