*Give or take a few hundred.
Okay. The easiest way to do this is to in stages. So, I will do it according to date,
Dec 20. 2008. This day gives us 4 games.
EagleBank Bowl- Navy (8-4) vs Wake Forest (7-5)
Breakdown: Inaugural game for this bowl in D.C. Was going to be called the Congressional Bowl. Navy won their earlier match up 24-17 when Wake was ranked number 16 back in September. Also, it was AT Wake. Methinks that if you can't beat a team at home, you get picked to win on a neutral field.
Should You Care? Depends on if you like watching to average teams battle it out, after you have seen these teams battle it out already. Rematches are not bad, (Texas v Oklahoma would be amazing) but not when they are between teams not many want to see play again. Although, Navy's offense is different and a nice change of pace if you are tired of seeing the spread.
Prediction: Navy 31-Wake 24
Entertainment value: 2 out of 5.
New Mexico Bowl- Colorado State (6-6) vs Fresno State (7-5)
Breakdown: Fresno State is a mini-name team. Both they and CSU had 'eh' seasons. Fresno St has my respect for their willingness to play anyone anywhere, but they only are good every couple of seasons (usually when they are senior laden and play a weak schedule) this was not a very good year for them. CSU is very average.
Should You Care? No. Why would you want to watch two not very good teams unless you have a connection to one? Although, because they are relatively even, we could get an entertaining game. I would'nt put this on the must watch list, but of course check in once in a while.
Prediction: Fresno State 27 - Colorado State 21
Entertainment Value: 1 out of 5
St. Petersburg Bowl- South Florida (7-5) Memphis (6-6)
Breakdown: Another inaugral bowl. South Florida was on TV more than Memphis and they were ranked number 10 at one point. Granted, they fell off after that but USF has a big victory over Kansas on their resume. I don't know much about Memphis this year other than that they didn't really have any big wins, or even big games. I say USF wins in a rout.
Should You Care? Maybe. Again, this is not a very intriguing match up. You might see a prospect or two on USF.
Prediction: USF 41- Memphis 13
Entertainment Value: 2 out of 5
Las Vegas Bowl- BYU (10-2) v Arizona (7-5)
Breakdown: BYU can score. They murdered UCLA at home earlier this year. They lost two games to very good teams in TCU and Utah. That is nothing to be ashamed of. Max Hall had a bad game in that last one but I don't think Arizona is good enough to make 'ol Max-y have a bad game. BYU will roll in this one. Arizona had a couple of chances to shine this year, but choked. They had USC on the ropes but Tuitama and co couldnt seal the deal. Then, against Oregon St, the defense blew it. Ugh.
P.S. AZ did beat AZ St. But its Arizona State, it aint all that impressive.
Should You Care? Yes. I like watching offense. You do too. BYU should be good for 40 in this one, maybe more.
Prediction: BYU 45- Arizona 20
Entertainment Value: 3 out of 5
